History of the Vine Centre
The Vine Centre has been in existence since 1987 and developed from its humble beginnings as a soup kitchen to an organisation which now provides a broad range of services to the most disadvantaged members of our community.
Since 2017 there have been many new developments at The Vine Centre and it has grown and developed as necessary to meet the growing demand and need for access to its vital services. However, the Vine Centre's aim has always remained the same - to help transform the lives of the vulnerable and most socially isolated members of our local community.
The Benefice of Frensham has been proud to support the vital work of The Vine Centre since 2014 but in order for us to be able to continue, we will always need your wonderful support and help with donations. I regularly visit The Vine Centre each month with all the donations and I also write an update article in the Parish Magazine every month.
The Vine Centre continues to provide the following vital support services to the most vulnerable people in our community:
-
The Community Cupboard which tackles food poverty in the community and is free for anyone needing help with food. This 'Cupboard' grew in size in 2022 to meet the ever increasing demand of supporting people during these very difficult financial times.
-
The Culture Cafe was opened in August 2021 and provides a safe place for many people. Support workers run lots of activities each week for people to engage with and they are also there to provide help if needed with any other issues people may have. The Culture Cafe also provides Barrista and Till training to help people gain experience and to grow their self confidence.
-
The 'Cooking with Confidence' and 'Level 2 Food Hygiene and Safety' Courses The participants gain practical experience of cooking in a commercial kitchen as well as valuable theory work. These courses offer help with mental health, wellbeing and employment skills to many more people
-
My Helping Hand which supports individuals who want to improve or develop their digital, literacy or numeracy skills
-
My Space which provides help with CV writing, job applications, digital skills and interview preparation
-
Anger Management, Counselling and Family Support
-
